The popular class, Introduction to Starting and Operating a Seafood Direct Marketing Business, taught via distance delivery is being offered again by Alaska Sea Grant over two weeks in October and November 2018.

The course, designed for fishermen who may have no previous experience in direct marketing their catch, teaches the development and management of a successful seafood direct marketing business from the initial planning all the way through operation. Topics covered include the practical application of business planning, obtaining financing, permitting, feasibility analysis, marketing, and operational aspects of a seafood direct marketing business.

The course is limited to twenty students, and is taught in real-time over the Internet in five evening sessions in late October/early November. There are homework assignments individualized to assist the fishermen in developing an action plan for their business. The fee for the class is $125, payable online through a simple registration process.
