Spencer Weinstein is supervising four high school summer interns in Metlakatla, helping with molt walks to search for invasive European green crabs, and assisting in removing invasive plants from around Annette Island as part of her Alaska Sea Grant State Fellowship. Weinstein is also working with the Alaska Ocean Acidification Network to produce outreach and reference materials.

During her fellowship working for Alaska Sea Grant, Weinstein attended community climate vulnerability workshops in Sitka and Hoonah, and the Alaska Forum on the Environment in Anchorage. She has also presented some of her graduate school research at several conferences and workshops.

Weinstein is passionate about fisheries research that partners with communities, and doing work that is of importance to fishing communities. Prior to moving to Alaska, Weinstein lived in Canada for five years; she completed her Ph.D. at the University of Waterloo and worked with subsistence fishers in the Canadian Arctic on community-partnered Arctic char research.

Following her fellowship, Weinstein hopes to stay in Alaska and move into a fisheries-focused position.
