2026 Alaska Young Fishermen's Summit

January 20–22, 2026
Elizabeth Peratrovich Hall

Juneau, Alaska

The Alaska Young Fishermen’s Summit welcomes new entrants of any age who are interested in learning more about owning and operating a commercial fishing business. The summit provides three days of intensive training and networking opportunities to create leaders in the Alaska commercial fishing industry. This fast-paced program features industry experts in fishing business management, the fisheries management process, and the role of Alaska seafood in the global marketplace.

Registration

The registration fee of $225 includes two evening receptions. Active Alaska commercial fishermen receive a $100 registration discount through support from Alaska Sea Grant and AYFS sponsors. Registration for all attendees will increase by $50 after December 15.

Travel scholarships

Attendees are responsible for their own travel to the event. We encourage you to coordinate with your fishing friends to share costs, and to contact your fishing associations to request support. Alaska Sea Grant has limited scholarships for in-state travel, available by application.

The travel application submission period is now closed.

What to wear

Southeast Alaska is a rainforest. Check the weather forecast and dress appropriately.

When visiting our state legislatures or meeting with representatives, plan to dress in business casual attire. While a suit isn’t required, your appearance should reflect the professional nature of the setting. Aim for a polished and respectful look—such as slacks or a skirt, a button-down shirt, blouse, or blazer, and closed-toe shoes.

Special opportunity for AYFS participants

The Alaska Marine Safety Education Association will offer a Fishing Vessel Drill Conductor course on January 23–24, in conjunction with AYFS. This course is free for commercial fishermen participating in the summit and requires a separate registration through the Alaska Marine Safety Education Association.
