Paula Cullenberg, director of Alaska Sea Grant, has won the Alaska Ocean Leadership Award for outstanding achievement in marine outreach and education.

Cullenberg accepted the honor during the annual Alaska Marine Gala on Feb. 3, 2018, in Anchorage. The dinner and award ceremony were hosted by the Alaska SeaLife Center at the Dena’ina Center. KTUU news anchor Maria Downey, master of ceremonies, was joined by actor and musician Jack Black to present the award.

“I can’t think of anyone who better epitomizes the vision of outreach and education,” said Molly McCammon, executive director of the Alaska Ocean Observing System and sponsor of the award. “Paula is always thinking about rural and coastal Alaskans and how to use science to best serve their needs.”
