TRANSPORTATION
Welcome to Ketchikan!
Getting here is part of the adventure and once you arrive, Ketchikan is surprisingly easy to navigate.
Ketchikan International Airport is located just across Tongass Narrows from town. After you collect your luggage, simply follow the crowd to the airport ferry for the quick five-minute ride across the water. The fare is $6, and ferries depart the airport side on the hour and half hour and the Ketchikan side at :15 and :45.
Once you step off the ferry, you are officially in Ketchikan. Taxis, rideshares* city buses or rental cars are readily available, and most local hotels offer shuttle service for their guests. Our community is compact and easy to get around, with downtown, restaurants, hotels, conference activities and many of Ketchikan’s attractions just minutes apart.
First-time visitor tip: Don’t worry about the ferry when you land—it is how everyone crosses to and from the airport. Grab your bags, follow the crowd, enjoy the view and welcome to Ketchikan.
Taxi
- Taxis are available throughout Ketchikan and can be a convenient way to get between hotels and the conference venue.
- Local taxi companies include Yellow Taxi (907-225-5555) and Sourdough Cab (907-225-5544).
- Consider arranging a pickup in advance, especially for early-morning or evening trips.
* Rideshare (Uber/Lyft)
- Uber and Lyft may be available in Ketchikan, but driver availability can be limited. We recommend having a taxi as a backup.
Shuttle
- Ketchikan offers a free downtown shuttle seasonally, generally from May through September. This service is not typically available during the March conference.
- Check local transit information for current schedules and service updates.
Public Bus
- Ketchikan's public bus system serves major areas of town, with routes running along the main road.
- Adult fares are generally $2 per ride. Check current routes and schedules to see whether the bus is a convenient option for your accommodations and the conference venue.
Rental Car
- Rental cars are available at Ketchikan International Airport and from locations in town.
- A rental car generally isn't necessary if you are staying downtown and primarily attending conference activities, but it may be helpful if you plan to explore areas outside downtown.
