Ocean Monitoring for Mariculture Operators
November 13 , 8:30 am – 5:00 pm AKST
This workshop will give farmers the tools they need to conduct basic monitoring of the waters around their farm sites, including temperature, salinity, light and plankton community. Farmers will be equipped with basic monitoring equipment, including Bluetooth-enabled temperature and light loggers, refractometers, depth samplers, and plankton tow nets.
Farmers will be trained in the proper use and maintenance of each piece of equipment, as well as simple methods for recording and visualizing data.
A strong emphasis will be placed on practical applications of collected data, including Vibrio control, harmful algal bloom detection, disaster response and other uses.
Registration is free, but space is limited. Priority will be given to active shellfish and seaweed farmers. Travel assistance is available for farmers outside the Homer area.
