Open Funding Opportunity: Community Partnership Development Grant

Deadline to apply: May 28, 2024

Alaska Sea Grant invites proposals for seed grants that support the planning of community-based research partnerships and engagement of communities on research teams. Proposals may request up to $20,000 and projects should occur July 1, 2024–January 31, 2025.

The goal is to prepare community-academic partnerships to successfully collaborate on the design of research projects related to improving understanding and management of Alaska’s coastal and marine ecosystems. This Request for Proposals (RFP) will not fund research, but rather provides resources to build community-academic partnership capacity for future research.

Open Funding Opportunity: Community Support for Marine Debris Removal

Deadline to apply for round 1: May 28, 2024

Alaska Sea Grant seeks proposals for marine debris removal projects in Alaska’s coastal communities. Proposals may request up to $200,000 and projects should occur September 1, 2024 to August 31, 2026. Eligible applicants include Alaska-based municipal and borough governments, Tribal governments and organizations, non-profit organizations, K-12 educational institutions, private businesses, and individuals.

Alaska Sea Grant Biennial Research Call

As part of our mission to enhance the sustainable use and conservation of Alaska’s marine, coastal and watershed resources through research, education and extension, Alaska Sea Grant supports a number of formal, peer-reviewed research projects on a two-year cycle.

We anticipate releasing our next RFP in December of 2024.

The biennial request for reserch proposals has closed for research to be conducted between February 2024 and January 2026.

Our next funding period will be for research to be conducted between February 2026 and January 2028.

We seek creative and innovative research proposals in the natural, social, and education sciences that address one or more of the following focus areas:

  • Healthy Coastal Ecosystems
  • Sustainable Fisheries and Aquaculture
  • Resilient Communities and Economies
  • Environmental Literacy and Workforce Development
