SUMMARY:Building community capacity in kelp mariculture site suitability assessments
DESCRIPTION:Alaska has vast untapped habitat ideal for seaweed mariculture. Determining the relative suitability of sites for cultivating kelp is a complex calculation involving many factors of varying importance\, including conflict over area use\, geophysical aspects\, and biological requirements for effective farming. \nJoin Alaska Sea Grant’s mariculture specialist for a 1-hour webinar about a soon-to-be-released Site Assessment Toolkit (SAT) that promises to help current and prospective seaweed farmers more easily evaluate potential sites around Alaska. The presentation will include a demonstration of the SAT and an opportunity to ask questions. \nThis project is a joint effort of the UAF College of Fisheries and Ocean Sciences\, Alaska Sea Grant\, and the Native Conservancy\, a nonprofit pioneering kelp farming in Prince William Sound and committed to revitalizing Native culture\, habitat\, health and spirituality. \n  \nRegister now \n  \n
