SUMMARY:Alaska-Washington Mariculture Knowledge Exchange
DESCRIPTION:Are you an Alaska mariculture farmer looking to expand your knowledge and connect with peers in the Pacific Northwest? Join us for a unique opportunity to learn from Washington’s shellfish cultivation industry through an in-person knowledge exchange. \n\n\n\nIn partnership with Washington Sea Grant\, Alaska Sea Grant is organizing a multi-day learning experience for Alaska mariculture farmers. Selected participants will travel to Washington state to visit farms\, hatcheries\, processing facilities and research sites focused on shellfish aquaculture. The goal is to share best practices\, innovative tools and technologies and lessons learned across state lines to strengthen the mariculture sector in Alaska. \n\n\n\nDates: \n\n\n\n\nTravel to Washington: Monday\, August 18\, 2025\n\n\n\nTours and site visits: August 19–21\, 2025\n\n\n\nReturn travel to Alaska: Friday\, August 22\, 2025\n\n\n\n\nWho should apply: Current or prospective Alaska mariculture farmers\, particularly those focused on shellfish. \n\n\n\nWhat’s included: \n\n\n\n\nRound-trip travel from Alaska to Washington\n\n\n\nLodging for the duration of the exchange\n\n\n\nPer diem to cover meals and incidental expenses\n\n\n\nGround transportation to all scheduled site visits\n\n\n\n\nTentative agenda highlights: \n\n\n\n\nTours of commercial shellfish farms and nurseries\n\n\n\nVisits to hatcheries and processing facilities\n\n\n\nConversations with Washington growers\, researchers and resource managers\n\n\n\nDiscussions on permitting\, environmental monitoring\, marketing and workforce development\n\n\n\n\nPlease note: The itinerary is still being finalized and site visits are subject to confirmation. \n\n\n\nParticipants will be selected based on their interest\, experience and ability to apply lessons learned to mariculture efforts in Alaska.
