DESCRIPTION:New dates: \n\n\n\n\n\nPhoto by Alaska Sea Grant.\n\n\n\n9 am – 5 pm \n\n\n\nJoin us to learn beginning crew skills\, marine safety\, and more\, and take advantage of the opportunity to talk with skippers. \n\n\n\nThe AK On-Board program is a series of regional hands-on training opportunities for beginning commercial fishermen. The program is led by Alaska Sea Grant\, Alaska Marine Safety Education Association\, Alaska Longline Fishermen’s Association\, Alaska Marine Conservation Council\, and regional partners to help new crewmembers gain basic crew skills\, learn about marine safety\, network with prospective employers\, and meet other people in the industry. This three-day workshop is regionally focused by our local planning committee and includes a mix of hands-on activities\, lectures\, discussion panels\, and more. \n\n\n\nTraining and activities include: \n\n\n\n\nIntroduction to Alaska fisheries\n\n\n\nKnot tying\n\n\n\nLife on the water\n\n\n\nBoat handling and navigation\n\n\n\nBeginning mechanics\n\n\n\nCrew contracts\n\n\n\nGear repair\n\n\n\nSeafood handling\n\n\n\nAMSEA Drill conductor training\n\n\n\nTours of working fishing vessels\n\n\n\n\nClass sizes are kept small and space is limited.
