SUMMARY:2021 Alaska Young Fishermen's Summit online
DESCRIPTION:The 2021 AYFS agenda containing links to the presentations given during the summit is available. \nAYFS is designed to provide training\, information and networking opportunities for commercial fishermen early in their careers. We understand the value of bringing young fishermen together face-to-face and remain committed to our ongoing work to “weave a network of future fishing leaders.”  Offering AYFS online in 2021 is a temporary solution to extraordinary circumstances. Alaska Sea Grant remains committed to providing the best possible educational and networking opportunities. \nThis event will focus on building capacity in the Alaska commercial fishing industry through four evenings of online training. The program will feature industry leaders providing insights on fishing business management\, the fisheries management process\, and the future of Alaska seafood in a changing environment. \nThe event will take place online in the evenings from December 6–9. \n  \nRegistration\nRegister for the summit \n  \n\nAgenda\nThe 2021 AYFS agenda containing links to the presentations given during the summit is available. \n \n\nProgram\n \n  \n  \nTake a look at the 2021 AYFS program (pdf updated 12/3/2021). \n  \n  \n  \n\nKeynote\nMonday\, December 6  •  6pm\nTheresa Peterson \nTheresa Peterson is an active fisherman and a 35-year resident of Kodiak\, Alaska. Theresa has a diverse commercial fishing portfolio spanning over three decades: drifting\, setnetting and seining for salmon\, longlining for halibut and sablefish\, and jigging for cod. Fishing is a family business for Theresa\, her husband Charlie\, and their three children. The family also participates in a variety of subsistence activities around the island and depends on the bounty of fish and wildlife available for food and sustenance. As an advocate for Alaskan fishermen\, Theresa works for the Alaska Marine Conservation Council (AMCC) as their Fisheries Policy Director. \n
